Plot & Pattern
Where spatial practice meets community accountability
Initiative diagram — fig. 01
Plot & Pattern is PatchWork's design and research initiative. It sits at the intersection of participatory design, built environment scholarship, and community accountability. The work here is grant-funded and community-driven. It doesn't produce work for its own sake. It produces work that communities can use.
The name is deliberate. A plot is a piece of land, a plan, a diagram. A pattern is a structure that repeats, that holds, that can be taught and passed on. Together they describe what this work tries to do: ground abstract research in specific places and the people who live in them.
Practice
Participatory design
Communities shape the built environments they live in, not the other way around.
Inquiry
Spatial justice research
Who gets to occupy space, on whose terms, and what that costs.
Resource
Grant-funded projects
All work is funded externally. No client work. No commercial contracts.
Plot & Pattern is an initiative of PatchWork, a Seattle-based organization. It operates under PatchWork's 501(c)(3) umbrella. Grant inquiries and research collaborations can be directed through the PatchWork contact page.
